Combinatorial Analysis
FACS can rapidly assess individual cells for
multiple biochemical parameters. It can combine
DNA analysis with quantitation of cell surface markers to observe changes
in expression of receptors, CD markers, enzymes, changes in
cell cycle status, etc.
Cell Sorting
FACS can select and purify cells in a particular
phase of the cell cycle, cells expressing high levels
of a receptor, cells devoid of a particular phosphatase or oncogene, etc. FACS can also identify and sort for specific mutants or select for positive transfected cells.
